| At Bethel,
our purpose as a church family is expressed as follows:
| "For
God's glory we develop fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ
who are making a redemptive impact on their relationships." |
We describe
"fully devoted followers" in this way:
|
Believers
They understand and have received the grace of God in Christ,
and they have publicly declared their faith in baptism. |
|
Spirit-Filled
They understand the ministry of the Holy Spirit and yield to
the Spirit. The Spirit is obvious in their lives. |
|
Growing
Those who follow Christ have a growth dynamic in their lives.
They grow in their relationship with God: fear of God, obedience
to God, service for God, and knowledge of God. And they grow
in Christ-like character: moral purity, integrity, humility,
compassion, mutual submission, biblical citizenship, etc. |
|
Disciplined
Fully devoted followers integrate biblical disciplines into
their lives: Bible reading and meditation, prayer, fasting,
regular church attendance, giving, and personal worship. |
|
Connected
Jesus
never intended us to be "Lone Ranger" Christians.
Fully devoted followers at Bethel are faithful to and active
in our church. They are involved in service growth, worship
and fellowship. |
|
Witnesses
Our Lord called us to be his witnesses. This means that we represent
Christ to our world as citizens of two kingdoms. As God's Kingdom-seekers,
we strive to be credible personal witnesses to the reality of
the Gospel. As Christian citizens in our State and Country,
we are responsive to our government and seek the public good.
|
|
Stewards
Fully devoted followers of Jesus submit to him in how they invest
and use their time, abilities, and resources. They are appropriately
concerned about their environment — God's creation. |
|
Family
They are also loving and faithful to their families. By this
we mean that they have a personal concern for the spiritual,
emotional, social, mental, and physical well being of their
spouse and children. They appropriately respect, love, and respond
to the needs of parents, siblings and their extended family.
